A midday Texas heat wave had me retreating from the sun by late morning. I dived into the resort’s swimming pool, floated, swam laps, and chatted with other campers in the shallow end.
To cool off, I made fruit popsicles: blending watermelon, strawberries, a squeeze of lime, pouring into molds and freezing (or chilling in a portable cooler). The kids (or inner child) loved them.
Later I took refuge in the clubhouse, played board games, read. At dusk I ventured out for dinner in Rockport, sampling a seafood gumbo. Returning, I sat with a cool breeze and watched the bay settle into evening.
